COSMETIC DERMATOLOGY

Cosmetic dermatology is a specialized field of dermatology(study of human skin) that focuses on procedures that improve appearance of the skin, particularly on the face and neck. They are used to reverse or delay the effects of aging, to improve the quality of the skin, to augment facial structures, and to improve the patient’s appearance in general. They can also be beneficial for certain skin defects. “Not only is it important to know what to use, when to use and how to use what we have in our aesthetic toolbox, we should equally understand who it is we are using these procedures on.”

Common skin related problems include acne, scar marks, pigmentation, rashes, dry skin, lines and wrinkles (commonly known as aging) and sagging of skin. There are cosmetic procedures to handle all these issues. We present an introduction to cosmetic dermatologic procedures which are minimally invasive, focusing on chemical peels, botulinum toxin injections, and the use of filler substances.
