The cosmetic form of botulinum toxin, often referred to by its product name BOTOX®, is a popular non-surgical injection that temporarily reduces or eliminates frown lines, forehead creases, crow’s feet near the eyes, and thick bands in the neck.

The toxin works by blocking nerve impulses, temporarily paralyzing the muscles that cause wrinkles, resulting in giving the skin a smoother and more refreshed appearance. Studies have also suggested that BOTOX is effective in relieving migraine headaches, excessive sweating and muscle spasms in the neck and eyes.

How Botox works?

Wrinkles are formed when an area of the face contracts repeatedly and over extended periods of time, as is particularly the case with the little creases that form around our eyes when we smile or laugh. Over time, this type of muscle stimulation leads to permanent wrinkles.Derived from the botulinum toxin, Botox reduces wrinkles and smooths the complexion. It is injected under the skin and temporarily prevents the contraction of the targeted muscle, making the associated wrinkles disappear. The Botulinum is applied by injecting directly in a specific muscle in quite little dosages. Surrounding muscles don’t get affected and the natural look of the face doesn’t degenerate.

Procedure

As a treatment for facial wrinkles, the procedure entails a small injection of BOTOX® into the muscle underlying the wrinkles to be treated. Typical areas of treatment include the forehead, the area between the eyebrows (glabella), and the wrinkles at the sides of the eyes (crow. s feet). The injection itself is brief and usually painless. No anaesthesia is required. After injection with BOTOX®, fine lines and wrinkles are significantly reduced and the skin appears younger and smoother.

The first effects of Botulinum begin to appear within 3-4 days, the complete effect is observed with eye within 7-10 days, the duration of permanency is up to the person and it differs between 4-6 months. If it is applied regularly, the duration of permanency is prolonged. This application, which approximately lasts for 15 minutes and performed with needles with thin ends is pain- and ache-free.

WHY BOTOX?

Wrinkles can tarnish your appearance and make you look more tired, angry or older, at times resulting in a mismatch between your facial expressions and your actual mood. Botox injections allow you to address this mismatch and have many advantages, namely:

  • They target wrinkles without affecting facial mobility and expressiveness.
  • They are fast and precise: This treatment method doesn’t require any anaesthesia.
  • No follow-ups are required after the session: All traces of the injection are gone within minutes of it being administered. You can therefore resume your day immediately after treatment.
  • They delay the appearance of wrinkles: Botox not only eradicates existing wrinkles, it also delays the appearance of new ones.
  • They have multiple uses: In addition to reducing wrinkles, Botox can be injected under the arms and into the hands to treat hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating). It is also an effective alternative to migraine medications.
  • A reliable treatment method that has been mastered by aesthetic practitioners, Botox has been used since 2002 for cosmetic applications.
